WHO WE ARE

We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can positively impact deaf+ communities and create a better future.

ORGANIZATION SNAPSHOT

The Positively Impacting Communities (PIC) Foundation was established in 2014 by Shavonda McCaleb. It is driven by a vision to bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing communities while advocating for the inclusion and empowerment of the deaf+ community. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by individuals in the deaf+ community, the foundation set out to create programs and initiatives that foster equality, opportunity, inclusion, and hope.

At its core, the PIC Foundation is dedicated to creating lasting impact through advocacy, literacy, education, and support. One of its hallmark programs, the ‘Silent Plates’ initiative, addresses food insecurity within the deaf+ community by providing nutritious meals and instilling hope. Additionally, the ‘PIC ME’ Summer Reading initiative has become a cornerstone of the foundation’s efforts, empowering deaf and hard-of-hearing children through tailored literacy activities and interactive learning experiences that build confidence and communication skills.

Beyond these initiatives, the foundation is committed to equipping the deaf+ community with tools for success. Offering free virtual ASL classes to help bridge the language barrier with the deaf and hearing communities, transportation support, scholarships, and job readiness training. The PIC Foundation works to remove barriers and provide pathways to independence. The PIC Foundation stands as a testament to what can be achieved through purpose-driven action. It creates opportunities that resonate far beyond the deaf+ community and inspires inclusion, understanding, and empowerment for all.
